35 hp Mercedes of 1908 (named 22/35 hp Mercedes from 1909) was the first “cardan car”, front and side view In the spring of 1908, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) launched the new 35 hp model – Daimler’s first car with propeller shaft drive. This type of power transmission from the gearbox to the driven axle via a shaft with universal joints was the most important innovation of the new Mercedes model. The engine, by contrast, was adopted in almost unmodified form from the previous 35 hp model with chain drive. It consisted of two rows of cylinder pairs arranged in line, and it had lateral camshafts and upright valves. More pics to see, click below...

It turns out that GM was a bit surprised when video and images of the Chevy Volt on the Transformers set, according to Edmund's Inside Line. The first images that proved the use of the car in Transformers 2 first appeared on this blog last week. This was shortly followed by videos (here and here) that showed the car being prepped and driven, something that General Motors has not even demonstrated for the general public.
The most important part, for Transformers fans at least, is the website reporting that the car is not an alt mode for any Transformer character in the movie. READ MORE, Click through below...

You figure a British publication that set out to do a Top 100 Ugliest Cars Ever list would be heavy on the weird UK machinery, and The Telegraph doesn't disappoint in that department (e.g., the Aston Martin Bulldog, above). But don't think that they've forgotten about Detroit; not only do the Pacer, the Fox Mustang, and the Edsel make the list, but… well, we don't want to spoil it for you, but let's just say that WE'RE NUMBAH ONE! WE'RE NUMBAH ONE! Thanks to Paul for the tip! Check Out the lineup, Click below...

The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is a unique creature, in that despite its impressive performance attributes, it's received a rather mixed reaction from the automotive community as a result of its updated exterior. At first even I was hesitant of the changes made to the model, but as time has progressed, I will admit I like the current SL range, and I do consider the new styling to be an improvement over the old. Presidential Candidates Accused Of Automotive Flip-Flopping [Politics] Tuesday, September 02, 2008 8:00 AM This just in: Barack Obama is a filthy polluter. Thanks to in-depth research into his controversial past, we can exclusively reveal that the Democratic candidate once drove a V8 engine-equipped Chrysler 300 before switching to his greener-than-thou Ford Escape Hybrid. But what does Joe “Pinko” Biden drive? And what about everyone’s favorite Real American Hero, John McCain, and his national security expert, mom-of-the-year VP, Sarah Palin?

As a child of the 80s and former member of the Knight Rider faithful (I happily toted the Rider lunchbox until third grade) it was nearly impossible to stifle my internal yelp of anticipation when first presented with the keys to the new KITT for an exclusive first drive. It's irrational, because I knew the car sitting in front of me wasn't the F-body KITT of my childhood dreams, but when those sweeping lights fired up in front for the first time, it was enough to make me giddy as a school boy. Especially because although it can't talk (at least not without help from the installed Mio GPS unit), this car's the real deal — a fire-breathing, bad guy-chasing weapon of fictional justice. That's because beneath the toys and cosmetic upgrades, this isn't the auto-tranny GT used for the made-for-TV movie, it's a 540 HP Shelby GT500KR.

A green Lamborghini Murcielago was completely destroyed in a deadly accident on California's 101 freeway in Woodland Hills. The car was spotted just before the incident allegedly undertaking in some very noteworthy speeding suspected to have resulted in the car punching through a guardrail and smashing into a parking structure. The unnamed driver was pronounce dead on the scene when police arrived and after watching the footage from the accident scene, we're not at all surprised. You know a wreck is bad when the only way to identify a car is by the wheels. At this rate, there won't be too many Murcielagos making it to classic status. [Click Here for the Video]

Less than a month after we brought you the first spy photos showcasing the rebirth of the legendary Mercedes-Benz Gullwing, spy photographer extraordinaire Rich Truesdell has captured yet another impeccable look at the future supercar – one that this time offers a high resolution view of the model testing in the California desert. As you'll see, the next Gullwing still boasts an exceptional amount of camouflage, but the aura of the former 300 SL is still present, providing you use a bit of imagination.

Only a couple of minutes into the briefing and already things are going bad. “The supercharged engine doesn’t trail off up to the 6,200 RPM redline, so on the track, you may find yourself hitting the rev limiter once or twice,” says a Cadillac spokesperson, preparing us for our first foray onto the track at Monticello.

(Hill driving his Ferrari to victory in the 1961 Belgian Grand Prix, the season he won the World Championship of Driving).
America's first US-born Formula One world champion, Phil Hill, died August 28th in a Salinas, CA, hospital as a result of respiratory problems complicated by Parkinson's disease. He was 81.
Hill passed on while making one of his many globe-trotting annual pilgrimages from his home of more than 70 years in Santa Monica, CA, this one was to the vintage sports car races at Laguna Seca Raceway and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the world’s greatest and most spectacular collector car show, both on California’s Monterey Peninsula. Hill occasionally drove in the vintage car races there and was a much-respected Rolls-Royce and Ferrari judge at the Concours for decades.
Hill won the Formula One title for Ferrari in 1961. Other highlights in his career include winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, the 12 Hours of Sebring three times, the Argentine 1000 Km three times, the Grand Prix of Italy twice and the Belgian Grand Prix. Hill's 1961 season stands as a monument to racing victories of the kind, for many reasons, we will not see again.
