Although it's a yawnsville of a story at the moment, Top Gear USA's Tanner Foust is bombing around Italy right now in a Lamborghini Reventón, on his way to tackling the Nürburgring in a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. Wake us when he gets there. Hopefully the LP640 stays in one piece, unlike the trend as of late. Pics Below Link:

Liz Murphy of Naperville, Illinois discovered while signing papers on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that the vehicle had been owned by then state senator Barack Obama. Local paper The Naperville Sun reports that Murphy was happy to discover her Jeep had been celebrity-owned, but now that Obama has a chance at the White House, she's hoping to cash in a little. Murphy plans to sell the Grand Cherokee after the November elections with an eye toward getting at least above the average trade-in value. She also reports that Obama's firm handshake is evidenced on the interior of the Jeep, as a left-hand mark is imprinted on the steering wheel. Says Murphy, "Every once in a while I'll run my hands over the top of the steering wheel and say, 'Wow, this guy had a grip.'" While we're optimistic, the jury is still out. Design student Miguel Ángel Iranzo Sánchez created the vehicle you see above, and he describes it as "a mix between a[n] SUV and a sportscar infused with Nissan brand DNA." For his efforts, which took an entire summer, he won a scholarship to get his Masters in Car Design in Valencia, and -- put on your Price is Right voice for this -- a brand new car! A Nissan Note, to be exact.
Last month's review of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 may have seemed to some a blinding orgy of Detroit love. Having just moved from Detroit to New York City, I was homesick and was seemingly in need of a shot of Motor City muscle. Still, I offer no apology, because despite the rose-colored glasses, I managed to outline the three glaring issues with the low-volume '08 model year Challenger SRT8 -- the outdated interior, the weight and most importantly, the automatic transmission. After spending a day this past week driving the new 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T, SRT8 and SE on the roads of New York City and on the Raceway Park track at Englishtown, NJ, Dodge has fixed at least one-third of the Challenger's problems. That's a good thing for Dodge, because I left the rose-colored glasses back in Detroit. Sweet images and more below...
The blokes at Car say they've got the scoop on the upcoming Audi A7, including a convertible version depicted in the rendering on the right. Power is rumored to start with six cylinders across the range, with a V10-powered S7 and a twin-turbo V10-motivated RS7. Expect a variety of transmissions to be on offer as well, including manuals, automatics and dual-clutch gearboxes with six or seven speeds, along with the availability of quattro all-wheel-drive.
Top Gear's very own Captain Slow was recently seen filling up this Radical SR4, not with fossil fuel, but Bruichladdich malt whisky. The demonstration will be part of Oz & James' Great British Adventure, in which May and wine critic Oz Clarke will tour around the country in a 1982 Rolls Royce Corniche convertible sampling British drinks. The show will air on BBC2 later this year, but for now we've got this amateur footage of the car starting up and running. Allegedly, the car was unmodified, but the fuel is the world's only whisky that's four times distilled. Click Through the Jump for Video...
You already knew one of us was out here in sunny Southern California after our little photographic fun with all three new American muscle cars in one photo for the very first time. But that wasn't the only reason we were out here on America's Left Coast. The other reason? The 2008 Shelby GT500KR. We've been given the keys to the only super 'Stang in Ford's media fleet to drive longer than any other car outlet's gone in the car to date. We'll be taking this 580 HP über-muscle car on a 1,779 mile trip from LA to Dallas. Along the way we'll stop in Las Vegas and Phoenix, liveblogging the entire way. Follow along with us at our Shelby GT500KR Road Trip tag. Although this now begs today's question of the day, what would you do and where would you go with the GT500KR and a full tank of gas?
Acknowledging that gas is more expensive than it used to be, and that some people are kinda freaked out by it, these 10 simple gas-saving tips have been shared by the folks at Ford as part of their push for "eco-driving." But while the tips are easy-to-follow for most people in everyday driving situations, some of us need to make exceptions. We've amended each of Ford's tips with some damn good reasons why you should ignore them. Hit the jump for more.
(Barack Obama says "Stop!" not in the name of love, but the sorrowful state of the Detroit Three!)
The Detroit News reports today (8-27) that long-time US Senator Carl Levin (D – MI) has gone on-record at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, telling reporters there he is working to win passage of a roughly $50 billion package of government-issued loans to assist the Detroit Three automakers. That’s right, Fifty Billion Dollars.
Because these would be government-issued loans, the Detroit Three would be able to borrow the money at the lowest possible interest rates, something their sub-investment grade credit standings would not allow in the open market. These direct loans would be payable over 20 years and the government could opt to defer all payments on the loans for five years. The favorable interest rates will at least save them $100 million on every $1 billion they borrow.
These days, that’s an offer they literally can’t refuse.
The proposal has been backed by Barack Obama. It would cost taxpayers $7.5 billion to guarantee the loans.
