Earlier
we looked into the case of the el cheapo Challenger and told you two
sides of the story. Today we've got a third side to add — eBay's.
We contacted eBay's PR team and had them look into what Glenn E Thomas
Dodge is alleging — a fault in their system which allowed the
reserve to disappear when they lowered the "buy it now" price down to
$43,400. eBay looked into the auction and, no surprise, didn't find any
problems, saying:
Lowering the Buy It Now price does not trigger the reserve price to
disappear. There are no other reported cases of this happening. If the
Buy It Now price is lowered below the reserve price, the latter is
reduced to the same amount as the new Buy It Now price. The help pages
on our web site provide more details around lowering a listing price:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/lower_price.html. Not knowing the
details behind how this particular listing was changed, we are not in a
position to comment on the result of the transaction. As a marketplace,
eBay brings millions of buyers and sellers together every day, and have
guidelines in place to ensure transactions occur in good faith. We hope
the buyer and seller reach a mutually beneficial agreement on this...
The findings of a new scientific study might not surprise anyone, but
researchers found that women find men more attractive when they are
driving high-end cars. KOB-TV's Jeremy Jojola reports. (NBC News

BYD,
as we know, stands for Build Your Dreams. But, if your dreams include
electric vehicles (EVs), there might not be too much building going on.
According to a report in Bloomberg citing the South China Morning Post,
the Chinese automaker has scrapped plans to begin mass production of
electric cars this summer. The company has an order for 100
all-electric e6 cars that will be used as taxis in Shenzhen, some of
which have already gone into service.
If, and here's the kicker, those taxis perform well, then more vehicles
may be produced, according to the report. A BYD spokesman said in late
February that e6 production would not be delayed, though, so there's
some hope still. Maybe. We've asked the company for an updated
statement on the matter.
Remember the Yamaha monocycle concept and the Rollersphere?
This is kind of the same thing only that the rider isn’t
protected by the elements like in the previously mentioned cases. What
makes the Hornet, as it is called, special is the fact that it is the
closest concept to a one-wheel superbike and this turned it into winner
of the VACC competition.
Designed by Liam Ferguson, the Hornet
single-wheeled concept superbike is powered by two in-wheel hydrogen
fuel-cell six-phase Neodymium-Iron (Nd-Fe) electric motors developing a
claimed 74 hp. Also considering its 388 lbs weight and that of the
rider’s, the listed top speed is of 146 mph.
But this
concept has its fair share of ingenuity too. For instance, it balances
gyroscopically when parked thanks to two side-by-side small wheels and
tilts forward to run on the central wheel when accelerated. Also, the
bike features a series of computers that examine data such as attitude
and rider input in order to always offer stability regardless of rider
weight and vehicle momentum...
Even if you have a Lambo it is rare to actually max-out and explore the car's raw power. The Ultimate Lamborghini Experience offers Lamborghini owners a chance to push their cars to the limits on the track in a professional race environment.
The Detroit Free Press reports this AM
that in an anonymous email last month to the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, a tipster (who signs his email "a concerned
scientist") said the specific design of Toyota's microprocessors,
memory chips and software could make them more vulnerable than those of
other automakers. He then went on to say that the phenomenon can
trigger software crashes that come and go without a trace and "may be
one reasonable explanation for incidents of sudden acceleration."
Apparently the auto industry hasn't yet adapted the techniques used
by aircraft firms and, you know, space ships, to prevent problems from
solar radiation...
Could cosmic rays from space be to blame for Toyotas that uncontrollably speed out of control? Could such cosmic rays put you in danger of becoming a bright orange superhuman rocky man-Thing?
These are the questions that a number of researchers are suggesting
need a closer look to see if electronic glitches could be the root
cause of Toyota's unexplainable rash of unintended acceleration.
Before you dismiss the cosmic ray theory, consider that the issue has
been known since the 1950s, and airplane and spacecraft manufacturers
design in safeguards that triple-check all data as a defense from such
interference from space. Later, in the 1970s, researchers found that
small amounts of this radiation does indeed make it down to the surface
and can cause problems with small electronics like cell phones and
computers.
