According to Automotive News (which is citing four separate yet unknown sources), General Motors
is preparing to reinstate more than 580 dealers that had applied for
government-mediated arbitration to keep their franchises in the United
States. For those keeping track, 580 represents exactly half of the
1,160 dealerships that signed up to go through the arbitration process. These selected dealerships would potentially be reinstated outside the process of arbitration.
GM will reportedly send letters to the 580-plus dealerships it has
decided to reinstate, offering immediate restoration of their franchise
rights, including the ability to order new vehicles. If a dealership
does not receive a letter, GM has not chosen to restore its franchise
rights and it will have the option to either settle with GM or enter
the arbitration process if it so desires.
For those dealerships that aren't successful in their quest to regain franchise rights, well... there's always Sears, right?
2011 Ford Mustang V6 EPA certification has just finished and, though Ford predicted 30MPG from their 305HP 3.7-liter V6, they actually got 31 MPG. According to Ford, it's the first 300HP+ car ever to return over 30MPG. Having cake, eating it too...
US automakers will release their February sales figures today, and
analysts will be watching for spillover effects from both Toyota's
recalls and bad weather in the Northeast. John Giamalvo, of

Before World War II there were several high-end European luxury
marquees that sadly didn't survive long past the Great Depression. One
of these makes was Hispano-Suiza,
and the car world was worse off as a result. Check out the V12-engined
Hispason-Suizas built in the 1930s if you're a non-believer. But guess
what? As we mentioned previously, Hispano Suiza is back, only they've dropped the hyphen from their name and the V12 in favor of an Audi V10.
That's right, an Audi V10, which is actually a Lamborghini V10, and Lambo is owned by Volkswagen.
But forget all that. The new Hispano Suiza (there's no model name) is
essentially a rebodied aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI,
only they've plugged two electric-superchargers into the intake
manifold. As a result, power is up through the roof, improving upon the
R8 V10's 525 hp by 225 ponies for a total of 750 horsepower. As you may
have guessed, performance is also way up, with 60 mph happening in 3.3
seconds (up from 4.5 in the R8) and a top speed of 211 miles per hour
(196 mph in the Audi), propelling the new 3,505-lb Hispano Suiza
squarely into hypercar territory...

There's a lot we don't know about the hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder
concept. Is its 500 HP combined or gas-only? Does performance really
tail-off as charge runs down? So what do we know? Porsche might
actually build this.
Porsche claims the Spyder can accelerate to 60 MPH in 3.2 seconds,
max out at 198 MPH and beat the Carrera GT around the Nurburgring with
a 7:30 lap. Although we're guessing it can do none of those things and
still return 78 MPG, its claimed fuel economy.
The mid-mounted 3.4-liter V8 revs to 9,200 although Porsche's press
material makes its output somewhat vague. We're not sure if that "more
than 500 HP" figure includes the 218 HP generated by the batteries or
is the gas engine alone...
We hate to go back to the oft-used well on this one but we have no
choice: The Porsche 918 Spyder Concept is even hotter in person than it
is in photos. About the size of a Boxster, it's a little wider and a
lot meaner. Underneath all that sharkness you get a 500-horsepower V8
in addition to 218 overall horsepower from the two axle-mounted
electric motors. And that will get you to 60 in 3.2 lickety-split
seconds as well along with the feelgood factor of 94 miles per hour.
How badly do we want this car made? Have a look at the gallery of
high-res photos below while we think about it... but it starts with
"OMG so @#$&! want..."
The
German tuner Brabus unveiled the EV12 Coupe - world’s fastest
Gran Tourismo - today at the Geneva Motor Show. The E V12 will be built
in limited numbers and will carry a price tag of 478,000 euro ($650,000
at the current rates).
The E V12 is powered by a 6,3 liter V12
twin-turbo engine that develops a total of 800 hp and 1,420 Nm of
torque (but limited to 1100 NM). It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.7
seconds, to 24 mph in 9.9 seconds, and reaches 186 mph after a mere
23.9 seconds. For street-legal use the top speed of the Gran Tourismo
is limited electronically to 217 mph, but can go up to 230 mph is you
remove the limiter.
The aerodynamics kit includes: air outlets in
the sides, special carbon-fiber sport fenders with integrated air
vents, special carbon-fiber rear fenders, rear apron with carbon-fiber
diffuser and a rear spoiler...
This is unbelievable! It drives like a car, moves like a bike and is the coolest thing on the road. Join “Flyin” Brian Hixson of Corona Motor Sports as he presents the 2008 CanAm Spider Roadster. This baby has options for the owner that a traditional motorcycle cannot give you. With three wheels you don’t have to worry about balance. You get a trunk, you get a good power to weight ratio. Most surprisingly you do not need a motorcycle license to dive this thing!
Any other time we would tell you that navy blue paint, yellow wheels
and a bright blue interior would be a recipe for disaster, but this is
no ordinary car. Of course, Horacio Pagani
could probably paint his cars any color combination he wanted and we'd
still think it was awesome. The level of detail in each Zonda is
extraordinary, and we never miss a chance to look one over in depth
when we get the opportunity. Lucky for us, then, we stumbled on this
Zonda at the Geneva Motor Show.
The particular Zonda you see is the Tricolore, a special edition made
to celebrate a squadron of the Italian air force named the Frecce
Tricolori. The squadron is a demonstration team composed of nine planes
and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Tricolore is
painted to match the squadron's planes, and the result is a stunningly
beautiful Zonda...
At 2954 lbs, the enormous-nostriled Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SuperLeggera is the lightest Lambo currently made. At 561 HP, it's also the most powerful Gallardo. Now this is our type of green car.
Lambo
managed to decrease the weight between the LP560 and LP570 by 154 Lbs
through the extensive use of carbon fiber in the body and interior.
Power comes courtesy of a direct injection 5.2 liter V10 shared with Audi R8 5.2 FSI and here hits 60 MPH in 3.4 seconds, continuing on to 202 MPH...
