If you've ever wondered whether a Tesla Roadster
can really rocket from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9
seconds, a new custom collectors edition of the electric sports car
could allow you to verify that claim with a certain degree of accuracy.
As part of its 150th anniversary commemorations, TAG Heuer has teamed up with Tesla Motors and will present the first fruit of their collaboration at the Geneva Motor Show.
The foucault field gray carbon-fiber shell with branding-appropriate
mismatched mirrors houses an interior that has received special
treatment from Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen,
incorporating design elements from the Swiss watch maker and making
room for both a one-fifth second Heuer limited edition stopwatch and a
TAG Heuer Meridiist mobile phone. The center console has been
specifically constructed to cradle a "cutting edge concept watch" that
will itself only be revealed a few weeks from now at the Baselworld watch and jewelry tradeshow. In a timely manner, please make your way past the break to peruse the press release that details their attempt to bring "technologically advanced art to life through motion."

Infiniti's
5-series rival used to be a nice, but anonymous car. After hooning it
through Southern California's canyons, that's no longer the case. Now,
the 2011 Infiniti M is Japan's Jaguar.
Full Disclosure: Infiniti wanted us to drive the new M so
badly they flew us out to San Diego, put us up in a fancy hotel and
hired one of GQ's top ten sommeliers to serve us fancy wine. I thought
the Viognier was pretty acidic and wasn't terribly impressed with the
Pinot Noir either. Maybe you shouldn't believe everything you read in
magazines.
Nissan's luxury brand has always been a second rate player in some
of the most competitive vehicle classes in the world. They want to be
BMW, but basing cars on the front-wheel drive Maxima platforms was
never going to get them there. Then, starting with the 2009 G37 Sedan
and more recently the Coupe and 2009 G37 Convertible, Infiniti suddenly became competitive. You don't need to make excuses for Infiniti's latest generation of cars...

The limited-run Audi RS6 Plus is expected to make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show and in typical Audi fashion; the Ingolstadt-based carmaker has given us a little sampling of what’s in store.
Audi
released a few photos of the interior console for the RS6 Plus,
providing us with a quick glimpse of what the car’s interior
looks like before it breaks cover in Geneva. If you look at these
photos, you’ll notice that Audi included a commemorative plaque
for the RS6 Plus where it is marked ‘001/500’, a sign that
the RS6 Plus will be limited to only 500 models...

Ford is expanding its EcoBoost
engine strategy to Europe this summer with the introduction of
2.0-liter and 1.6-liter inline-four cylinder engines. The EcoBoost
range of turbocharged and direct injected gasoline engines debuted last
summer here in North America with the launch of the 3.5-liter
twin-turbo V6 in the Ford Taurus SHO, Flex and Lincoln MKS and MKT.
Ford will debut refreshed versions of its S-Max and Galaxy minivans
this summer, both of which will use the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that
will also be available in the updated Edge
later this year. In the European van applications, the 2.0-liter will
be rated at 200 horsepower, which is on the low end for an engine of
this type and displacement. Power numbers for the four-cylinder turbo
in U.S. applications haven't yet been announced but will likely be in
the 230-240 hp range to match the current 3.0-liter V6 used in the Fusion and Escape..

Hummer is mostly dead, but last summer, we took two H3s and joined the Hummer Club on an expedition to Michigan's Drummond Island. One local woman grabbed my ass, but for the most part, the fun happened behind the wheel.
Last summer, we hit Drummond with man-about-Hummer
PR guy Nick Richards and a couple of press-fleet H3s. We originally
intended to run this story whenever Tengzhong and GM came to a sale
agreement — sort of a "here's what the Chinese have gotten with
their purchase" story — but then the deal was delayed. And
delayed again. And delayed again. Now it's completely off, and GM
claims that it's going to close Hummer down. Naturally, we discovered today that it still might return to peddling the brand to the highest bidder...

As we enter another year of F1 we can say hello to a brand new official
safety car in the form of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which
replaces last year’s SL 63 AMG and is destined to be one of the most
memorable safety cars we’ve seen in a while. The SLS AMG safety car
will make its debut at Bahrain’s season opener on March 12...

For most of us who don’t own a Lamborghini Gallardo,
this bit of news is pretty irrelevant to us. But if you’re one of
the lucky – and rich – few that does have a Gallardo, the
German tuning house CDC-International has a package that can turn your
Gallardo into a Lamborghini Reventon, or close to it, at least.
To
be fair, CDC-International’s body kit doesn’t exactly hit
every nook and cranny of the Reventon to a tee. But it comes pretty
close. For starters, the protruding front bumper is a staple of the
Reventon, as are those aggressive side skirts.
In addition to
those Reventon styling cues, CDC International’s custom body kit
for the Gallardo also comes with a rear spoiler, red mirror covers, a
modified front apron, bonnet, and rear grill...

Audi still hasn't released any images of its new electric A1 e-tron concept,
but it has revealed some details of the car. Unlike the two previous
e-tron sports car concepts that were both pure battery electric models,
this one is a range-extended EV. Like the Chevrolet Volt, the A1 e-tron uses a smaller battery pack that allows it to go up to 31 miles on a single charge with no emissions.
Once the battery is depleted, an internal combustion engine kicks in to
drive a 15-kilowatt generator and keep the A1 going. However, unlike
the Volt or Fisker Karma,
the A1 is using a single-rotor Wankel engine to drive the generator.
While Wankels are not renowned for their fuel efficiency (much the
opposite in fact), in this application it could work well thanks to its
high power density.
The range with the Wankel running is bumped up by another 124 miles to
a total of 155. With only a 15kW generator available to sustain the
battery, it will be interesting to see how much performance is degraded
in that mode. Audi claims the A1 e-tron achieves 123.8 miles per gallon
(U.S.) on the draft EU standard for ER-EVs. We should have more details
tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Oh, look... the Ford Focus Wagon. The fifth variant of the new Ford Focus
is yet another stylish, attractive and functional Euro-wagon we won't
be getting stateside. America, why do you hate small, utilitarian
vehicles?
Seriously, when Ford sold a Focus wagon in the U.S.,
the take rate was about 4%. But the hatchback five-door was about 10%.
We're told by Ford that the Fiesta early reservations are running as
high as 50% for the 5-door.
So America likes a big, bulky hatchback, but they hate the elongated
and sleek wagon. Whatever. We're apparently an idiotic country when it
comes to car-buying preferences and proud of it. Fine...

When
it comes to building tuning programs for BMW cars, you won’t find
a tuning house that’s more capable than AC Schnitzer. The famed
German tuner has done some sort of tuning package for a lot of BMWs in
the past and with the recent release of the BMW 5-Series GT, it was
only a matter of time before AC Schnitzer began working on a program
for 5-Series GT.
And as expected, the German tuner has once again delivered on latest project: a tuning program for the new BMW 5-Series GT.
The tuning kit for the 5-Series GT is based on the six-cylinder 530d,
which spikes the engine’s total output from the standard 245
horsepower to 286 horsepower.
Among the notable features of AC
Schnitzer’s exterior package for the 5-Series GT includes a twin
sports rear silencer, chromed "Sports Trim“ tailpipe trims and
chromed "Racing" tailpipe trim, front and rear spoilers, bonnet Vents
with chromed center web, side skirts, and 19" or 20" alloy forged
wheels...
