Hummer is mostly dead, but last summer, we took two H3s and joined the Hummer Club on an expedition to Michigan's Drummond Island. One local woman grabbed my ass, but for the most part, the fun happened behind the wheel.
Last summer, we hit Drummond with man-about-Hummer
PR guy Nick Richards and a couple of press-fleet H3s. We originally
intended to run this story whenever Tengzhong and GM came to a sale
agreement — sort of a "here's what the Chinese have gotten with
their purchase" story — but then the deal was delayed. And
delayed again. And delayed again. Now it's completely off, and GM
claims that it's going to close Hummer down. Naturally, we discovered today that it still might return to peddling the brand to the highest bidder...

As we enter another year of F1 we can say hello to a brand new official
safety car in the form of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which
replaces last year’s SL 63 AMG and is destined to be one of the most
memorable safety cars we’ve seen in a while. The SLS AMG safety car
will make its debut at Bahrain’s season opener on March 12...

For most of us who don’t own a Lamborghini Gallardo,
this bit of news is pretty irrelevant to us. But if you’re one of
the lucky – and rich – few that does have a Gallardo, the
German tuning house CDC-International has a package that can turn your
Gallardo into a Lamborghini Reventon, or close to it, at least.
To
be fair, CDC-International’s body kit doesn’t exactly hit
every nook and cranny of the Reventon to a tee. But it comes pretty
close. For starters, the protruding front bumper is a staple of the
Reventon, as are those aggressive side skirts.
In addition to
those Reventon styling cues, CDC International’s custom body kit
for the Gallardo also comes with a rear spoiler, red mirror covers, a
modified front apron, bonnet, and rear grill...

Audi still hasn't released any images of its new electric A1 e-tron concept,
but it has revealed some details of the car. Unlike the two previous
e-tron sports car concepts that were both pure battery electric models,
this one is a range-extended EV. Like the Chevrolet Volt, the A1 e-tron uses a smaller battery pack that allows it to go up to 31 miles on a single charge with no emissions.
Once the battery is depleted, an internal combustion engine kicks in to
drive a 15-kilowatt generator and keep the A1 going. However, unlike
the Volt or Fisker Karma,
the A1 is using a single-rotor Wankel engine to drive the generator.
While Wankels are not renowned for their fuel efficiency (much the
opposite in fact), in this application it could work well thanks to its
high power density.
The range with the Wankel running is bumped up by another 124 miles to
a total of 155. With only a 15kW generator available to sustain the
battery, it will be interesting to see how much performance is degraded
in that mode. Audi claims the A1 e-tron achieves 123.8 miles per gallon
(U.S.) on the draft EU standard for ER-EVs. We should have more details
tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Oh, look... the Ford Focus Wagon. The fifth variant of the new Ford Focus
is yet another stylish, attractive and functional Euro-wagon we won't
be getting stateside. America, why do you hate small, utilitarian
vehicles?
Seriously, when Ford sold a Focus wagon in the U.S.,
the take rate was about 4%. But the hatchback five-door was about 10%.
We're told by Ford that the Fiesta early reservations are running as
high as 50% for the 5-door.
So America likes a big, bulky hatchback, but they hate the elongated
and sleek wagon. Whatever. We're apparently an idiotic country when it
comes to car-buying preferences and proud of it. Fine...

When
it comes to building tuning programs for BMW cars, you won’t find
a tuning house that’s more capable than AC Schnitzer. The famed
German tuner has done some sort of tuning package for a lot of BMWs in
the past and with the recent release of the BMW 5-Series GT, it was
only a matter of time before AC Schnitzer began working on a program
for 5-Series GT.
And as expected, the German tuner has once again delivered on latest project: a tuning program for the new BMW 5-Series GT.
The tuning kit for the 5-Series GT is based on the six-cylinder 530d,
which spikes the engine’s total output from the standard 245
horsepower to 286 horsepower.
Among the notable features of AC
Schnitzer’s exterior package for the 5-Series GT includes a twin
sports rear silencer, chromed "Sports Trim“ tailpipe trims and
chromed "Racing" tailpipe trim, front and rear spoilers, bonnet Vents
with chromed center web, side skirts, and 19" or 20" alloy forged
wheels...

What is an Infiniti?
That's a pretty harsh question to be asking 20 years after the brand's
debut, but sadly, it's pertinent. To be fair, the possible answers to
this question got much narrower in 2003 when Infiniti introduced a
legitimate BMW 3 Series competitor, the G35 (now G37). The situation further clarified that same year when the "Bionic Cheetah," known to the rest of us as the FX showed its (then) quite handsome face. But it was the 2005 introduction of the second generation M sedan that announced most loudly Infiniti's luxury-performance aspirations: to kick BMW in the back of the pants.
When it debuted, the M (specifically M45S) was a better sporting sedan
than the BMW 545i. It had more power, it arguably handled better, and
the heavily larded-on high-tech gizmos were worlds more user-friendly
than BMW's first-generation iDrive (two minutes to tune in a radio
station sucks)...

Cavallo Verde! These purport to be the first photos of the Ferrari 599 Hybrid
set for reveal in Geneva. And while it's blasphemous to the extreme, at
least they've given it an ugly paintjob so we can avoid it. Yeah, blah blah blah electric motors and batteries and crap like that....

Late last year we first heard that Mercedes-Benz, together with its
high-performance AMG division, was going to replace its entire engine
lineup with a new range of more fuel efficient direct-injected and
turbocharged units. Today, we have the first solid details on one of
the most exciting of the newcomers, a 5.5-liter V-8 that will replace

Despite the rumors of the Italian super car maker Lamborghini making a SuperVeloce Gallardo,
the raging bull is going to bring a factory tuned version of their more
compact dream machine to market, but it won’t be wearing an SV
logo. Instead the new car will focus on reducing weight as a means of
going faster and will be appropriately named the LP570-4 Superleggera
when the car makes its official debut tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show.
The
new Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera will weigh in at around 154 pounds
less than the Gallardo LP 560-4. The 5,2 liter V10 engine will deliver
an incredible 570 hp. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4
seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in only 10.2 seconds later, wjile top speed
goes up to 202 mph...
