In
addition to the Concept One, TechArt will also unveil the GTStreet R
Porsche 911 Turbo at the Geneva Motor Show. The car comes with an
impressive 660 hp and 860Nm of torque and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph
in under 3.5 seconds with a top speed reaching up to 214 mph.
As
with just about every car that goes through the hands of TechArt, the
GTStreet R comes with a plethora of aerodynamic modifications that
includes, among other thing, a lowered front apron with carbon
splitter, an adjustable rear spoiler with air inlets and rear apron
with integrated carbon diffuser, a multifunctional day-driving light
system that is integrated into the front apron and 5-spoke light alloy
wheels in dimensions of 19" and 20"...
Novitec Rosso always goes big at the Geneva Motor Show, and this year won't be any different with the introduction of the 848 RACE, a twin-supercharged version of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.
As its name would imply, those two blowers, combined with a set of
water-to-air intercoolers, a new exhaust and an ECU tune, are good for
848 horsepower at 7,900 rpm and 621 pound-feet of torque at 6,300 rpm,
allowing the matte white and grey supercoupe to run to 60 mph in 3.4
seconds, hit 186 mph in 23.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 214 mph
flat out.
In addition to the new 20-inch wheels in front and 21-inch hoops in the
rear, upgraded Brembo brakes and an adjustable sports suspension that
can lift the front of the 599 by 40 mm, aluminum and carbon fiber
accents swath the inside, along with an upgraded flat-bottom steering
wheel with a switch that opens an additional baffle in the exhaust...
Michigan-based Exodus Films unveiled the hero-ride for their upcoming sci-fi flick, Jinn. It's "The Firebreather," a stylized take on what a new Pontiac Firebird might've been. Look familiar? It should. Better news? They're building 50 of them for public purchase.
The car was designed by the film's writer and director and Art Center
grad AJ Ahmad, who wanted to tie the developing Michigan film industry
to the state's history. The Firebreather will be the hero car in the
movie, driven by the film's star Ray Park (aka Darth Maul) who was on
hand for the unveiling.
The car, built by Classic Design Concepts for the film, takes a new
Camaro SS and gives it an all-new, and very handsomely-styled front
end, an entirely new tail end with a new spoiler, new hood, some slick
custom wheels, the Eibach Pro-Plus performance handling package a
embroidered seats...
STEVE PARKER'S THE CAR NUT SHOW
Saturday, 2/27, LIVE @ 11am Pacific/2pm Eastern on www.TalkRadioOne.com
An amazing spectacle in congress this past week --- Akio Toyoda, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Corp., was interrogated by a congressional committee about his company's recalled cars, safety and quality problems and what did he know about it all and when did he know it. At the same time, the FBI raids three Toyota suppliers in the US. Outside of that, Hummer is officially dead and Saab is officially sold as GM continues as the Incredible Shrinking Corporation. Plus your calls --- 213-291-9410.
STEVE PARKER'S WORLD RACING ROUNDUP
Sunday, 2/28, LIVE @ 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern on www.TalkRadioOne.com
NASCAR had its Disaster at Daytona followed by last week's normally boring race at California Speedway, where Jimmy Johnson started what he hopes (and probably is) a massive streak of victories. This weekend: Las Vegas, home track of Kurt and Kyle Busch. IndyCar opens its season in two weeks on a new street course in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Formula 1 gears up the same weekend in Bahrain and there are plenty of changes in both series we'll cover. Plus Danica Patrick gives up NASCAR. Join in at 213-291-9410.

Following in the tradition of the Apollo Sport and Speed, Gumpert is coming to the Geneva Motor Show with a upgraded variant of its supercar for the 2010 model year.
In addition to a new black and white paint scheme and the first
availability of right-hand drive, the new Apollo is set to get a
revised carbon fiber aerodynamics package and a bump in output to 750
horsepower. As the Speed variant produces over 800 ponies from its
twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter Audi-sourced V8, we're a little confused by
the apparently drop in power, but when you're already running to 60 mph
in three seconds and topping out at 224 mph there's only so much
tweaking you can do. More details next week. Stay tuned...
To launch its new store in Chicago, Puma commissioned British design duo The Wilson Brothers to create a life-size Formula One car out of shoe boxes. Puma sponsors both the Ferrari and Red Bull teams in Formula One,
so this seems to make sense from a cross-promotional level. Especially
given the shoe box car appears to be loosely based on the current
Ferrari F10...
We like all of the press that advanced vehicles are getting these days
in the non-automotive media, but if you're going to create a quiz
called "Are You Plugged In?
- Test your knowledge of electric vehicles with our quiz," then
shouldn't you try extra hard to make sure there aren't any mistakes in
said quiz? C'mon Wall Street Journal, don't let General Motors snow you into thinking that EREV and PHEV are different things. The Journal writes:
GM calls the Volt an extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV.
It is powered by a battery pack that when fully charged has a range of
up to 40 miles; it also has a small gas engine that turns a generator
that charges the battery once it is depleted. It is different from a
plug-in hybrid, or PHEV, which runs on both battery power and gasoline.
The FBI raided three Toyota suppliers in the US Tuesday (Yazaki, Denso and Tokai Rika) in an antitrust investigation, and things weren't any better for Toyota in Washington's vast corridors.
In exchanges marked by cultural and language confusion, anger and apparent evasiveness, Toyota's worldwide President and CEO, Akio Toyoda, and COO of Toyota North America and head of Toyota Motor Sales USA Yoshimi Inaba faced the full wrath of a congressional committee investigating Toyota's many safety problems and recalls.
After spending nearly the past 40 years covering the auto industry from Los Angeles, which means a close relationship with all the Japanese makers and spending a lot of time in Japan, I've often joked that Japanese businessmen have 100 ways to say "I don't know" and 1,000 ways to not take responsibility. Those watching the hearings yesterday got about a four-hour example of all that live, in action and with translation provided, presented by Japan's most important car executive and his co-hort.
Shown live in Japan (where it was the start of the working day), the scene was unprecedented and, to me, as strange and shocking as GM going bankrupt and Chrysler being bought by Fiat.
Although
this is not an actual motorcycle, at $265.9 (€195) the Ferrari CX
10 is probably the cheapest way to brag about having the famous logo on
one of the toys in your garage.
Produced by Turbo exclusively for
Ferrari, this thing screams performance. It has an aluminum frame, fork
and stem, a front V-brake and rear coaster brake as well as a carbon
rear fender. Overall, it weighs 20 lbs (9.1kg) and the size makes it
great for 3- to 5-year olds...
