Move over, Disneyland. There’s a new theme park on the other side of
the world that is fast becoming a must-visit for everyone from all
walks of life. And the funny thing is it’s not even open yet.
The Ferrari World
theme park in Abu Dhabi, which is actually the largest indoor theme
park in the world, is set to open later this year. Among the many – and
we can’t stress that word enough – attractions the Ferrari World will
feature includes over 20 rides and attractions designed for the young
and the young-at-heart...
The
new BMW 5 Series is built on the same platform as the 7 Series, which
explains the variety of ever-larger backsides. The latest? The BMW 5
Series Touring. Attractive, right? Don't worry, we're probably not
getting it here.
The new-for-2011 BMW 5 Series Touring is the 4th generation of the
built-for-businessmen tourer. It's also the first to see so many
versions of itself. In fact, the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the BMW 5 Series
Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series and this new BMW 5 Series Touring were
all jointly based on the same new F10/F11 vehicle architecture. That
explains why the 5 Series been able to show so many more varieties of
backside than ever before — it's on a bigger platform...
U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House committee
investigating Toyota, speaks with TODAY’s Meredith Vieira about the
investigation into an out-of-control Prius incident in
California. (Today Show)
Picture a Hollywood chase scene: you got a movie star behind the wheel, a director behind the camera, and a stuntman doing the driving. But where does the actual car come from? With over 20 projects at any given time and a star-studded clientele that includes Will Smith, Harrison Ford, Kenny Wayne Shepard and Charlie Sheen, Picture Car Warehouse is the paramount pitstop on Hollywood's highway.
With all of the buzz surrounding Jim Sikes and his "runaway Prius" last week, it doesn't surprise us that the funny folks at Saturday Night Live have spoofed the situation in one of their infamous fake advertisements.
As you'll recall, Sikes claims that his Prius started to accelerate
unintentionally and that he couldn't stop the car by simply hitting the
brakes. Big news, indeed. Late last week, however, new details were uncovered to suggest that the whole incident may have just been one big scam. Toyota will be releasing the full results of its investigation later this afternoon, so we'll wait until we have the official word before we start pointing any fingers. Hit the jump to watch the SNL commercial.
Have a Toyota MR2 but really wish you had a Ferrari? The wrong way to
make your dreams reality is to eBay for this $2,000 kit that'll help
you re-badge your 'yota as an Italian supercar.
Toyota MR2's are fine cars if you want a reasonable balance of power
and fuel economy and don't mind an ugly mug. If you don't like the ugly
mug, why not replace it with a Ferrari-like body? Because it's wrong...
During the the first half of the 20th century, automobile rallies such as the Mille Miglia,
brought brand awareness and prestige to grand tourers bearing
now-famous marques like Porsche, Ferrari and Bugatti. Beginning August
3rd, the e-miglia will attempt to do the same for electric transport
with a rally that will see two, three and four-wheeled vehicles make their way through the picturesque Alps between Munich, Germany and Riva del Garda, Italy. Organized by the same folks behind the admittedly antithetical Transsyberia Rally,
this new event will not be a mad dash through a continents-length of
mud but rather maintain a focus on consistency and other objectives as
participants make their way along public roads. Well, mostly. There
will be some "athletic challenges" during some stages on closed-off
terrain...
Britain is rife with cottage-industry sportscar-makers, but two are joining forces as racing manufacturer Ginetta has reportedly acquired supercar start-up Farbio.
The Farbio GTS was the brainchild of one Arash Farboud, who since
divested from the venture to build his own Arash AF10. Farbio was left
to operate independently, launching various versions of the GTS over
the past couple years of operation. The company's acquisition gives
Ginetta - known principally for its racing cars - a ready-made supercar
offering to add to its portfolio, as well as a second factory with an
in-house carbon fiber manufacturing facility. The unit will continue to
operate more or less independently, however, with current Farbio chief
Chris Marsh (previously with Marcos, another British sportscar-maker)
remaining at the helm...
In a barren landscape about 50 miles outside of L.A is a junkyard that looks like nothing more than a post-apocalyptic automotive wasteland. But look closer. From engine work to painting on over $50 million of the best vintage and exotic cars, Mike Fennel is one of the top restoration shops in Calilfornia. And if the end of the world comes, he’ll be too busy to notice.
Brabus
unveiled the most powerful off-roader ever: the G V12 S Biturbo
Widestar based on Mercedes G55 AMG. And, naturally speaking, any car
that comes with a title of "world’s most" attached to it will
fetch a pretty enormous price tag and in this case, the G V12 S Biturbo
Widestar will set you back 394,900 euro.
The G V12 S Biturbo
Widestar is powered by the same twin-turbo twelve-cylinder as the
Brabus SV12 S, with an impressive output of 700 hp at 5,100 rpm and 973
lb-ft of torque at 2,100 rpm. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph
in just 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 163 mph.
The aerodynamic
kit includes: wider fenders, Brabus roof spoiler with integrated LED
brake light, Brabus door moldings, stainless-steel running boards, LED
lights and larger wheels and tires, ranging from 20 to 23 inches...
Confirming the congressional memo we shared yesterday questioning the story of runaway Prius driver
Jim Sikes, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
officials say "we have not been able to find anything to explain the
incident that Mr. Sikes reported."
NHTSA joined technicians from
Toyota in evaluating the car driven by Jim Sikes, who claimed his car
accelerated out-of-control through Southern California last week. We
were the first to raise the serious questions regarding the financial motivations and history of Mr. Sikes, and statements from the impartial federal agency draws his claims further into question.
"Further, the Prius is equipped with a system that detects
simultaneous brake and accelerator pedal applications. When the brake
applications are moderate or greater, the system will close the
throttle allowing the vehicle to slow down and stop," said NHTSA
officials. "The system on Mr. Sikes' Prius worked during our engineers'
test drive."...
As
federal investigators and Toyota officials try to replicate an
out-of-control Prius incident in California, some are claiming the man
behind the wheel, James Sikes, made the whole incident up. NBC’s Miguel
Almaguer reports. (Today Show)
