Air Ride Technologies' previous 1967 Camaro was stolen from a hotel parking lot during the Year One Experience in 2007. Since that time the company garage has been without its own first-gen platform to experiment with.
That has changed. Precision Coachworks (the Air Ride Technologies
sister company/car-building shop) has finished a new 1968 Camaro,
called "Velocity." The Camaro will debut at The Year One Experience at
Road Atlanta May 16-18th, 2008.
The VELOCITY Camaro car started off as an incredibly straight survivor
car. A new World Products' Warhawk 427 has replaced the six-cylinder LS
engine that is dyno proven for 614 hp. The suspension is the complete
Street Challenge air suspension package from Air Ride Technologies. The
front system consists of the StrongArm, DA ShockWaves, Musclebar,
PosiLinks, and billet tie rod adjusters.
The rear system uses the AirBar and DA ShockWaves in conjunction with
the Detroit Speed mini tubs to allow the larger 335 series rear tire.
The 4100 series AirPod with the LevelPro sensors controls the air
system. The Camaro also uses a 12.7:1 steering box from Detroit Speed.
The color is "Hot Hues Velocity Orange," a special Hot Hues color mixed
specially for this project. The bare metal stripes were accomplished by
the craftsmen at Precision Coachworks.
Note that there is no rear spoiler and a flat hood. This car was so
perfect that it needed no panel replacement and no panel repair,
interior or exterior. The whole car could have been
bare-metal-clearcoat finished like the stripes if desired.
